Delaware State Police say they responded to the Relax Inn in Laurel on Tuesday night for a report of a missing girl. Her family had been displaced from the Carvel Garden Apartments and was staying at the motel for the evening.
Police say the girl and her 5-year-old brother unlocked the door of the motel room while their parents were sleeping. The girl wandered out of the room and was later discovered missing by her parents.
Authorities searched the area and found the girl in a pool in the 100 block of Lakeside Drive. Emergency medical personnel performed CPR on the girl and took her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
