It happened around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Michael Lane in the community of Caravel Woods in Bear, Delaware.
According to police, a husband and wife were in their home when the wife saw someone break into their car.
She told her husband who got a gun and confronted the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Ryan Lake, while he was still inside the car.
When officers arrived they found the man holding a gun on Lake, who was face down on the driveway of the home.
At the time of his arrest, police said Lake had several items belonging to the victim in his possession along with eight Oxycodone pills, drug paraphernalia and a bag containing a crow bar, a retractable knife, needle nose pliers and a black ski mask.
Lake was arrested and charged with trespassing and theft.
Police say his probation was also violated.
