It was just after 10 p.m. Tuesday when Wyatt heard a heated argument developing between a man, whom police now identify as 23-year-old Omaire Clark, and a 17-year-old girl outside his home on West 5th Street in Wilmington.
Witnesses say Wyatt tried to break up the argument, and then told Clark that he was going back inside to call the police. Investigators say Clark initially left the scene but returned a few minutes later brandishing a large kitchen knife.
A short time later Brower Wyatt was pronounced dead at Christiana Hospital. But it didn't take long for police to make the arrest.
Investigators say Clark was sending a barrage of text massages to the 17-year-old he was arguing with earlier.
"The police department actually picked up the signal and pinged the cell phone where he was found hiding in a Hampton Inn down in Elkton, Maryland," Master Sergeant Steven Barnes of the Wilmington Police said.
The victim's family and friends are happy this investigation ended so quickly, they just wish it never had to begin in the first place.
"He was a loving man, caring, thought about everyone, he didn't care who you were; he tried to keep the peace," Tehesia Morris, Wyatt's daughter, said.
Clark is being held in a jail in Maryland awaiting extradition.
Meanwhile, arrangements for Brower Wyatt's funeral are being made.
