At around 8:25 a.m. investigators say a man was walking the nature trails at Cape May Point State Park when he came across a woman who was crying hysterically.
She told the man she had just been assaulted.
Detectives learned the 39-year-old victim had been walking on the nature trails and was at a wooden lean-to overlooking a pond when the attacker approached her.
She told police the man grabbed her, threw her to the ground, then inappropriately grabbed and touched her before fleeing the area.
The suspect is described as a white male, about 25-35 years old, 5'5" to 5'6" tall, with a thin build.
The suspect was described as having a full head of brown wavy hair and was clean shaven, wearing red shorts and a plain white t-shirt at the time of the attack.
The victim was taken to the Cape Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
Police continue to search for her alleged attacker.
