The allegation was included in court documents released Thursday. The public defenders representing Derrick Powell are seeking to bar his statements to police from being used as evidence at his murder trial this fall.
Their motion says Powell was punched and kicked in the chest, arms and face for several minutes and that police used a stun gun on him.
State police spokesman Sgt. Walter Newton declined to comment on the allegations.
Powell is charged with first-degree murder in the September shooting of police officer Chad Spicer. Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty.
