Asbury Park to consider allowing topless beach

ASBURY PARK, N.J. - July 7, 2010

Asbury Park is considering allowing women to go topless on one of its beaches.

The City Council is expected to consider a proposal Wednesday night to create a topless beach in the city's north end.

The idea is the brainchild of a yoga studio owner who has sunbathed without a top in Europe and Miami. She wants to do it legally here.

Supporters say the topless beach would revitalize tourism in Asbury Park and create a new buzz surrounding the resurgent beach town.

Others worry it would scare away families who have recently started coming back to the once-famous resort.
