Ellena Ossiptchouk, a citizen of Belarus, has been ordered to serve 33 months in prison. Her partner, Evigeny Tarasenko, will be sentenced July 19.
Federal prosecutors say the pair leased vehicles under phony names before selling them on eBay and other sites. Authorities say they told buyers they would get the titles when their checks cleared.
Defense lawyer Evan Hughes says he plans to ask U.S. District Judge Harvey Bartle to reconsider the sentence handed down Wednesday.
Hughes is requesting home confinement or probation so the 31-year-old Ossiptchouk can care for the couple's 1-year-old daughter.
