Cornell Glen also scored for the Earthquakes (6-4-4), who won for the first time since May 22. San Jose had been 0-2-3 in its last five matches.

Fred scored for the Union (3-8-2), who lost for the first time at home this season. Philadelphia was 2-0-1 in three previous home matches - one at PPL Park, its new stadium, and two at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Eagles.

The Union held a 1-0 advantage for much of the first half after Fred notched his second goal of the season in the 14th minute. Rookie Danny Mwanga was credited with the assist.

San Jose tied it at 1 just before stoppage time expired in the first half. Chris Wondolowski sent a cross to Glen, who one-timed it past Philadelphia goalkeeper Chris Seitz.
