No brown lawns in this town

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. (AP) - July 13, 2010

Don't let your lawn go brown.

At least not in one Southern California desert community.

Joan Hacker tried to save a few bucks in these tough times by not watering her lawn.

She figures that costs about $100 a month.

But she got a $100 ticket for lack of yard maintenance in Cathedral City.

Hacker says she feels like she's being bullied.

But she planted seed and started watering again.

Fire officials say there are more than 750 open landscaping cases in the city.

Officials add the laws help reduce fire risk and maintain property values.
