Flooding forces evacuation of Del. daycare

ELSMERE, Del. - July 14, 2010

It happened around 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at "All My Children" daycare in the area of Kirkwood Highway and Walnut Avenue.

Officials on the scene say the daycare was evacuated as a precaution when water began to rise from the Chestnut Run Creek and the Little Mill Creek.

Though water did get inside nearby Serpe's Bakery, no water got inside the daycare.

An Elsmere fire department spokesman says two dozen children were evacuated.

Cars were submerged in the parking lot. Firefighters searched all the vehicles to make sure nobody was stuck inside.

Officials say the kids remained calm during the evacuation and everything appeared to be orderly.

No injuries were reported and the flood water receded a short time later.
