Philly to stop sharing victim information with ICE

PHILADELPHIA - July 16, 2010

Mayor Michael Nutter says the city will still be sharing information about those accused of committing crimes.

He says the city is renewing its Preliminary Arraignment Reporting System agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement - but with some changes.

Philadelphia will no longer provide ICE with access to information on victims and witnesses. The new agreement takes effect in September.

Community groups and immigrant advocacy organizations had expressed concerns about the city sharing information about witnesses and victims with ICE.

Nutter says the city doesn't want to discourage victims and witnesses from coming forward.

District Attorney Seth Williams says he was also in favor of the changes made to the agreement.
