Police: Suspect stole tools, dog from home

SIMONDS GARDENS, Del. - July 19, 2010

Mark Waters, 41, of the 2700 block of N. Pine Street in Wilmington, is facing a number of felony charges.

It all began around 2:00 p.m. Sunday.

Police say the owner of a home in the Simonds Gardens community was with his 9-year-old son making repairs following a fire.

While the victims were inside the home, police say Waters entered and threatened to kill the adult victim with a hammer.  Waters then helped himself to some of the victim's tools and his Rottweiler.

When police arrived, they found Waters walking the dog. They were being followed by the victim's nine year old son.

Waters was arrested after a brief struggle with police.

At the time of his arrest, police say Waters was found to be in possession of a five inch long knife, a crack pipe, and the victim's tools.

Police say it does not appear Waters and the adult victim knew each other.
