New violence after Chester ends emergency status

CHESTER, Pa. - July 25, 2010

Police in Chester say they found a man shot in a doorway shortly after 3:30 a.m. Saturday, and he was later pronounced dead at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. Another person had a gunshot wound that was not life-threatening.

Shortly before 1 p.m. Friday, officials say, another man was taken to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

Only hours earlier, Mayor Wendell Butler Jr. had announced the lifting of a state of emergency imposed June 19 following a string of murders. Butler said late Saturday night that he did not intend to immediately reimpose the state of emergency.
