Son of Del. state trooper killed in I-495 crash

NEW CASTLE, Del. - August 5, 2010

Walter L. Sherlock IV, 18, of Middletown, perished in the wreck.

It happened at 1242 a.m. just south of U.S. Route 13.

According to investigators, Sherlock's SUV drove out of the northbound lane of I-495 and crossed into the southbound lane.

His SUV was then hit by a tractor trailer, operated by 37-year-old Peter Slack of Berwyn, Pa.

The tractor trailer, which was hauling a load of mulch, then overturned, spilling its load all over the highway..

Slack suffered just minor injuries. Police say both Sherlock and Slack were wearing seatbelts.

An investigation into how this crash happened continues.
