Catering conflict leaves couples hungry for answers

PHILADELPHIA - August 18, 2010

"I've had several wedding nightmares in the last few weeks," Daisy Corsino of Northeast Philadelphia said.

But now, Daisy Corsino is dealing with a real-life wedding nightmare.

She and her fiancé Carlos Rodgriguez have been planning their upcoming nuptials for a year. The invitations are out, the seating arrangements have been set, but now, just 10 days to the big day, they're forced to start all over again.

"Finding another venue means possibly more money that we don't have," Carlos said.

They are just one of 16 couples to be burned by Elite Catering in Voorhees, New Jersey.

These couples are now thousands of dollars in the hole after the business suddenly ended up in the dark and padlocked more than a week ago.

Customer Shannon Marigliano says she was recently contacted by the owner, Ira Siegal, who as public records show, was evicted from the property, but as he told her and Action News, all events at Elite Catering would be honored.

That's what he told Bill McCormick whose wedding is in three days.

"My fiancée and I have said we're not going to pay until the day of, the day we're here, and the day those doors are open," McCormick said.

Action News spoke with Don Nogowski, the attorney for landlord Vorhees Preston, who had a different take.

"Elite Catering's lease has been terminated, they are not currently in the Coliseum, they will not be occupying the premises in the future," Nogowski said.

Nogowski says Siegel who took over the business early this year owed them close to $45,000 in back rent.

He says the landlord is currently working to find a new caterer who they hope will be able to honor the dates for future events, but unfortunately can't help those who lost their money.

"We're going to fight this," Daisy said.

The landlord's attorney Don Nogowski wants people who had contracted with Elite Catering to contact him if they still want to hold their event at the Coliseum with a different caterer. Nagowoski's number is 856-354-7700.

Joe Palombo, owner of Mirabella Caterers in Cherry Hill says he will honor a portion of deposit lost to Elite and cater their event. His number is 856-354-1888
