Auditors in Philly for look at PHA spending

PHILADELPHIA - August 31, 2010

Spokesman Jerry Brown of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development says the three certified public accountants arrived Tuesday. They will be "looking at the financial and managerial state" of the agency, which gets much of its $347 million annual budget from the department.

Brown says auditors will look at all receipts, purchases and expenditures "to see that all federal dollars provided to the agency were used in the manner they were intended for."

Housing officials pledged an audit after the authority's director, /*Carl Greene*/, was placed on leave last week amid revelations that the agency quietly agreed to pay nearly $900,000 to settle four sexual-harassment complaints against him.
