NJ library wants man arrested for unreturned books

RANDOLPH, N.J. - September 14, 2010

Hsian Kao borrowed the materials from the Randolph Township Public Library in 2008.

The library director contacted police after she spotted Kao in the library on Aug. 4, but he left before she could talk to him.

Police went to his last known address and interviewed his ex-wife, who said Kao had returned to Taiwan on Aug. 6 after visiting their children during a 10-day trip, an arrest affidavit said.

She told police Kao was not expected to return to the United States until August 2011, according to the affidavit.

The library director told authorities she had also contacted Kao's ex-wife in 2008 and suspects Kao checked out the materials knowing he planned to return to Taiwan, the affidavit said.

A judge on Sept. 8 signed a warrant charging Kao with theft by unlawful taking.
