AP: NJ Senate to seek subpoena power for hearing

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - September 17, 2010

The Senate Legislative Oversight Committee has a Sept. 23 meeting scheduled to examine a mistake that may have cost New Jersey a $400 million Race to the Top federal education grant.

The committee wants to hear from top administration officials, but they have not responded.

State Sen. Barbara Buono said Friday that making the governor's chief of staff and communications director testify will help lawmakers "get to the bottom" of how the mistake was made.

In order to get subpoena power, a majority of Democratic-controlled Senate must vote on a resolution.
