Gov. Christie vetoes higher ed agency's minutes

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - September 18, 2010

In vetoing the Sept. 8 meeting minutes of the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority, Christie cited its failure to seek bids or proposals from other firms before hiring the Hackensack-based law firm of Pashman Stein to conduct an operations review.

The review came about after the state Inspector General's office released an audit in May that found the authority to be in management "disarray." The agency oversees more than $1 billion in financial aid to the state's college students.

The veto announced Friday night is Christie's fifteenth involving various state authorities and commissions since taking office in January.
