Offshore Power Boat Association spokesman Frank Caiozzo told The Press of Atlantic City the storm, which battered Bermuda, created dangerous conditions for racers Sunday.
Caiozzo said racers could have lost sight of one another among the waves.
The race was returning to Atlantic City for the first time since 2004.
Organizers expect to run the race in Atlantic City next year.
