Whether you're trying to cover up years of soot and stains, or you just want a uniform look in your firebox, I can show you how to make it look new again with some paint. First, prep. Clean the firebox with a half a clip of dishwasher detergent mixed with a half a gallon of warm water, then let the bricks dry completely. Now, you need a special heat resistant paint for this project that won't strip or peel or emit harmful fumes. This one is good up to temperatures of twelve hundred degrees Fahrenheit. Start with the grout lines to be sure you get all of them and then move onto the bricks. I'm using a paintbrush rather than a roller. The bristles fit into all of the crevices in the bricks so I'll get nice even coverage. Once the job is finished, let it dry.
