Brother of fmr. firefighter found dead after blaze

ROXBOROUGH - September 27, 2010

Firefighters were dispatched to the fire in the 400 block of Conarroe Street shortly after 5:00 a.m.

They arrived to find fire and smoke on the first floor of a three-story building that housed three apartments.

When firefighters entered the building they found a middle-aged man on the floor in the front room. He was later pronounced dead.

The victim is a brother of a retired Philadelphia volunteer firefighter, officials told Action News. However, the victim's name has not yet been released.

Fire crews found two uninstalled smoke detectors inside the apartment.

There were residents in the second floor apartment, but they were able to escape from the building without injury. They had working smoke detectors, fire officials said.

The fire was brought under control at 5:28 and a fire marshal was called to the scene.

A cause has not yet been determined.
