Who attacked Joseph DeLeo?

October 9, 2010

"He said, 'please, Dad, don't let me die,' I said, 'I won't Joey, I won't let you die,'" Joseph DeLeo's father said.

But it was a father's heartbreaking promise he couldn't keep.

The family says 38-year-old Joseph DeLeo was attacked by five men the weekend of February 28, 2009, possibly at 9th and Christian streets in South Philadelphia.

Even more despicable, DeLeo only had one arm. He lost his right arm in an accident years ago.

One month after the attack, he died from brain injuries he suffered. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Earlier this year, the family held a benefit and was able to raise $6,000 and that's the reward.

They're hoping a tip to the Citizens Crime Commission will lead to arrests and convictions.

The family has heard rumors that DeLeo may have owed someone $60 and the beating may have been an attempt to collect.

The family is hoping to get justice for a loved one they dearly miss.

"I just miss him telling me 'Mom, I love you.' I miss him putting his arm around me," Joey's mother Theresa said.
