Local amputee searches for stolen scooter chair

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. - October 6, 2010

In 2005, 53-year-old Vanessa White had to have her left leg amputated due to an infection following a medical procedure.

Since then, she's relied on a cranberry and beige Jazzy scooter chair to get around.

On Wednesday morning, between 9 and 9:30, someone stole her chair outside her home in the 3700 block of Drexel Avenue in Pennsauken, N.J. as she was getting ready to go to the drug store.

"People do steal around here, but not my scooter chair," White said.

The scooter chair cost $6,500, 20% of which she had to co-pay out of her own pocket.

"It's like, who would bother somebody's scooter chair that they know a person needs, in my situation, I got one leg," White said.

Police theorize it may have been an addict or someone looking to sell it.

Though, police plan to check with area pawn shops, they do not have any leads on a suspect.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the scooter is being asked to call Pennsauken Police at 856-488-0080, extension 0.
