Cat colony worries local airport officials

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - October 8, 2010

Lehigh Valley International Airport officials said they aren't sure how to get rid of the cats.

It's not clear how many cats are living near the Allentown airport but the number is believed to be in the dozens.

Lawrence Krauter of the Lehigh Northampton Airport Authority said the cats can attract coyotes, fox, and hawks that may get in the way of airplanes.

Krauter said he doesn't want to kill the cats, and he won't, unless there is no other option.

He said he would like to work with animal welfare organizations to trap the cats and figure out whether they can be domesticated.
