Soldier from W. Philadelphia killed in Afghanistan

A local soldier has been killed during combat in Afghanistan.

Staff Sergeant David Weigle, 29, of West Philadelphia, was killed Sunday when his vehicle was attacked with an improvised explosive device.

Weigle was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team.

Weigle leaves behind a wife and son.

Also killed in the attack was 25 year old Specialist David Hess of Ruskin, Florida.

Military officials say both soldiers died of wounds suffered then their unit was attacked.

Both men were assigned to the 101st Airborne Division with Fort Campbell.
