Sea lion has a problem with rowers

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) - October 14, 2010

A New Zealand college says their rowing crew boat was attacked by a sea lion about 200 yards off shore.

The University of Otago rowers say the creature smashed the hull twice and chased the students out of the water.

Rower Matt Smail says it was "panic stations" as the sea lion broke through the hull.

The rowers went flat out to get their boat back to shore.

Another rower tells a local paper the sea lion even walked up the boat ramp and gave the students a bit of snarl, as they were leaving.

One expert says the sea lion probably wasn't being aggressive, just playful.
