Car with shooting victim crashes injuring another

WEST PHILADELPHIA - October 16, 2010

Police say a 27-year-old male was shot twice near the intersection of 63rd and Callowhill streets around 2:00 a.m.

He was shot once in the leg and once in the back.

A friend was taking the victim to Misericordia Hospital when his car struck a Buick Sentra at the intersection of 62nd and Chestnut streets.

The impact of the crash caused the Nissan Sentra, with the driver and the shooting victim inside, to careen out of control and strike a Chinese market on the corner of the intersection.

The shooting victim was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in critical condition.

Police have not said if the friend was injured in the crash.

The driver of the Sentra, a male in his 30s, also went out of control and struck a parked vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to Jefferson University Hospital and is in stable condition.

No arrests have been made and it is not clear what sparked the shootings.
