Arrest made in brazen ATM thefts

HOCKESSIN, Del. - October 28, 2010

31-year-old Matthew Bush, of Bear, was arrested at the Quality Inn Motel located on DE Rt. 896 north of I-95 in Newark on Wednesday.

Police say, in the motel room, they found evidence linking Bush to the crimes.

In addition to the ATM thefts, police say they've linked Bush to a number of other robberies.

He was also charged in an Oct. 9 road-rage incident in which a driver shot pellets at the window of another vehicle, and assaulted that vehicle's operator.

In each of the ATM thefts, investigators say the men drive up in a newer model Ford F-150, break out the glass front doors of the businesses, then tie a tow strap around the ATM.

The suspects then drag the machine outside with the truck.

Most recently, police say the suspects stole an ATM from the Shell gas station at 5821 Limestone Road in Hockessin around 3:20 a.m. Friday.

The men are also wanted for stealing an ATM from the Buffalo Wild Wings at 1887 Pulaski Highway in Bear at 2:14 a.m. on September 19th.

Police say the same two men tried to steal an ATM from the Hooters Restaurant at 2607 Capital Trail in Newark at 3:45 a.m. on August 14th, but were unsuccessful because the machine was bolted to the ground.

The stolen machines have since been recovered. They contained an undisclosed amount of money.

Detectives are asking anyone who may know the whereabouts of the remaining suspect to contact Troop 2 at 302-834-2630 ext. 211. They may also contact Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
