These dolls have a secret

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - October 28, 2010

They may have been used for drug smuggling.

The dolls are called Nina and Lucy Ann.

They were X-rayed yesterday at the VCU Medical Center, in Richmond, Virginia.

Experts say the dolls have hollow heads.

They could have been used to sneak quinine or morphine past Union blockades to Confederate troops.

The next step will be to test the dolls for traces of the drugs.

The dolls were donated to The Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond.
