Request denied in Del. teacher sex case

DOVER, Del. - November 18, 2010

The board on Thursday refused to recommend to the governor that Rachel Holt's 10-year sentence for second-degree rape be commuted.

Holt, whose commutation request was supported by prison officials, gasped for breath after hearing the board's decision and wept as she left the hearing room.

Holt was arrested in 2006 and charged with multiple counts of first-degree rape involving one of her students at Claymont Elementary School. She pled guilty to a single count of second-degree rape and received a minimum mandatory 10-year sentence.
