The one vehicle accident occurred around 4:00 a.m. Sunday when the driver of a car lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole near the intersection of Providence Road and Ashland Avenue.
The impact of the crash trapped the driver inside, and responding firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to cut the driver from the car.
The victim was taken by medics to The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he is in critical condition.
So far, there is no word yet on how the driver crashed.
