MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) - November 24, 2010

Researchers at Kansas State University have bred bright purple sweet potatoes.

The scientists say the purple spuds have more anti-aging and antioxidant properties than other sweet potatoes.

They might even help fight cancer.

The K-State researchers tell The Hutchinson News their taters are sweeter than normal sweet potatoes.

So, your purple pie will need less sugar.

The K-State team says their deep purple test pies are a big hit with the people who've tried them.
