With traffic backed up for several miles into Maryland, officials decided to waive tolls for northbound traffic at the Newark toll plaza until 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Officials also encouraged drivers to avoid delays at the toll area by taking the North East, Md., exit at Maryland 272, going south to U.S. 40 and east to Del. 896, then taking 896 north to return to I-95.
