Mother dead, son wounded in Wilmington shooting

WILMINGTON - December 2, 2010

It happened around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of Davis Street.

The woman killed has been identified as 42-year-old Dawn Dollard.

It all began, police say, when Dollard's 22-year-old son was coming home from the store. As he was entering the home, police say two masked men forced their way inside and announced a robbery.

Police say Dollard and another son, a 17-year-old, tried to run out the back door when one of the suspects opened fire.

Dollard was struck in the back and killed. The 17-year-old was wounded in the shoulder. The 22-year-old was not hurt.

There are no suspect descriptions at this time.
