Quakertown police seek smash and grab bandit

QUAKERTOWN, Pa. - December 10, 2010

Fuzzy surveillance photo from a pizzeria is the only picture police have so far of the smash and grab burglar who went on a rampage through the Quakertown area Wednesday night into Thursday.

He got away with several thousand dollars in cash after hitting two restaurants and four cleaning establishments in Quakertown, Richland and Coopersburg.

The first strike was at Sal's Pizza Randa. He broke in through the front door where the camera took his picture.

"He just broke in, broke the glass door, take the cash and left," said owner, Salvatore Marsala.

The bandit, dressed in sweat clothes with his face pretty much covered, then went right next door to Swan's Cleaners. Police believe the cleaners were the preferred targets.

Business owner, Betty Yoon says he took a lot of money and maybe one article of clothes.

Police in all three townships off Route 309 are jointly working on the cases. They are convinced the same culprit pulled off the heists during an overnight blitz, smashing windows and prying open doors.

In some cases, the crimes were not discovered until the owners opened their doors Thursday morning.

"Just the time frame, everyone discovered the burglaries to their businesses around the same time during the early morning hours. We believe that he was just on a spree that morning," said Detective Jeff Boehm of the Quakertown Police.

Police are asking anyone with information on this case to call Quakertown Borough Police at 215-536-5002.
