The fire broke out just after 7:30 p.m. at the Maple Terrace Apartment complex on East Rudderow Avenue.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy flames coming from an apartment.
The flames spread to the roof.
Three people were transported to an area hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
The fire destroyed the whole building which had 17 units.
An estimated 50 people are displaced from the fire.
The cause is under investigation.
