Help N.J. family devastated by fire

A New Jersey community is working to save Christmas for a family that lost everything to fire.

When fire swept through a Little Egg Harbor home Sunday morning, it robbed a family of all its possessions including Christmas.

The 2-alarm fire in the Falcon Drive home broke out around 10:30 a.m. Action News obtained video showing the intense flames from a camera mounted on a firefighter's helmet.

Lisa Cardaci's boyfriend, Kevin O'Connor, is hospitalized with burns and suffering from smoke inhalation. Lisa and her 12-year-old daughter and 7-year-old autistic son are staying with family.

Many in the community, including the local fire companies, were so saddened by the event just days before Christmas that they've launched a drive to collect everything from toys and clothes to gift cards and cash.

Shivering in the cold Monday morning with just a sweatshirt, Lisa Cardaci says she's overwhelmed by the warm support she's getting from friends and strangers alike.

You can drop off donations at the Mystic Islands Fire House Thursday from 5-7 p.m. A firetruck will be loaded up with the gifts and Santa will be on board and Christmas will be delivered to the family.

Donations can be taken to:
