Police exchange fire with gunman in Kensington

KENSINGTON - December 24, 2010

It all began on the 2000 block of North Howard Street at about 3:30 Friday morning. Police were called to that location for a report of a man with a gun.

When officers arrived they spotted a man riding a bike who matched the description of the gunman.

When the officer approached the male, he jumped off the bike and fled on foot, sparking a foot pursuit by officers.

Along the 1900 block of Front Street, the suspect turned around and began firing shots at the officers. An officer in turn discharged his firearm once at the suspect. No one was struck in the exchange of gunfire.

Police finally apprehend the suspect a few blocks later.

The suspect is identified as 20-year-old Louis Zambrana. He is being charged with aggravated assault and other gun-related charges. Police also recovered a 357 revolver at the scene.
