Oyster Creek nuke plant back online

LACEY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - December 25, 2010

Officials say the Oyster Creek nuclear station in Lacey Township was returned to service at 3:52 a.m. Saturday after crews completed work on one of the unit's five recirculation pumps. The pumps move water through the reactor during power operations.

The plant had been offline since 10:15 a.m. Monday, when it was manually shut down by operators.

Oyster Creek is located in southern New Jersey, approximately 60 miles east of Philadelphia. The plant produces 636 megawatts of electricity per hour, enough to power approximately 600,000 homes.
