Utility officials say about 3,000 New Jersey customers are without power, thanks to gusty winds that lingered behind a massive winter storm.

Jersey Central Power and Light said 2,400 customers in central and northern New Jersey had no service as of 8 p.m. Monday. That's down from 8,600 earlier in the day.

Spokesman John Anderson said crews hoped to restore power to nearly everyone by about midnight.

PSE&G reported 500 customers without power at 8 p.m. Monday.

Atlantic City Electric reported fewer than 100 customers without service. Spokeswoman Bridget Shelton said that's down from about 4,000 earlier Monday.
