Repairs affect I-295, NJ Turnpike

CARNEYS POINT, N.J. - December 29, 2010

This comes after a pothole opened up on an overpass carrying I-295 over the New Jersey Turnpike. Debris rained down on the Turnpike, forcing lane closures.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation closed northbound I-295 in the area and diverted traffic onto the Turnpike.

One southbound lane of the Turnpike was also closed.

The NJ State Police and the NJ Department of Transportation were called out around 1:30 p.m. to mile marker 1.25 of the NJ Turnpike for a report of debris falling on the roadway.

Authorities say a driver stopped to take a look at his vehicle after crossing the bridge into Delaware.

When DRBA Police responded to see if he needed assistance he reported he believed something had fallen from an overpass onto his vehicle.
