Sledding on the menu in Jersey burbs

BLACKWOOD, N.J. - January 8, 2011

Dad rigged up the dune-buggy and took the boys for a spin down High Street.

The snow blower was out over on Frankford Avenue in Blackwood. It's a brand new acquisition for the neighbor who worried about a repeat of last winter.

But on Davistown Road, one man cleared snow the old fashioned way, explaining he enjoys the exercise.

"I guess I'm old school. I don't want to buy a snow thingymabobber," said Craig Robson.

But many found time to play. There were kids hitting the hill, and soaring down on sleds, then of course making the trek back up.

Snowboards also popular; fancy footwork by some and wipeouts for others. And of course there's always a chance that a snowball fight breaks out.

Since the storm hit on a Saturday, there was no day off school for these kids, but that meant dad could join in the fun.

"It's kind of nice to have a day off get out with the kids--actually the first time he's been sledding," said Joe Puglise.

So what did little Simon think of a day of sledding with his sister?

"I'm good at sledding, and I even jumped one time," said Simon Puglise.
