South Jersey theater under renovation collapses

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - January 4, 2011

The 102-year-old building was being gutted when it fell down Monday afternoon.

Construction workers were taking down interior when workers noticed plaster falling from a wall. The building's front wall soon fell inward.

One firefighter suffered a broken leg when debris fell on him as he left a nearby building.

The $8.5 million planned restoration would have brought the theater a new stage, orchestra pit, concession booth, 700 seats and electrical and sound systems.
