227 pounds of ground beef recalled

WILMINGTON, Del. - January 5, 2011

The Shoprite is located at 501 South Walnut Street, Wilmington, De 19801.

The ground beef may contain foreign materials.

The products subject to the recall include:

  • 73/13 various size packages of store made ground beef with a sell by date of December 29, 2010
  • 82/20 various size packages of store made ground beef with a sell by date of December 29, 2010
  • 85/15 various size packages of store made ground beef with a sell by date of December 29, 2010
  • Meat loaf mix (beef, veal, pork) store made various size packages with a sell by date of December 29, 2010

    This ground beef was sold in Delaware to consumers of the Shoprite of Christiana Crossing, Wilmington. This is the only Shoprite affected by the recall. The sell by date appears on the label.

    The problem was discovered by a consumer who notified the store that there were black and white pieces of plastic in the ground beef.

    Officials say the soaker pad was inadvertently ground with the beef.

    The Delaware Department of Agriculture has not received any complaints about finding injury or illness from the consumption of this product at this time. Anyone concerned about an injury from consumption of this product should contact a physician.

    Delaware Department of Agriculture is conducting recall checks and steps are being taken that the product is no longer available to consumers.
