NJ Gov says he wants to end caps on tuition hikes

TRENTON, N.J. - January 11, 2011

He told New Jersey Press Media he may have made a mistake last year when he imposed a 4 percent limit on increases.

He says college presidents should be free to seek market prices and have more autonomy over the universities and that it should not be the governor's job to manage the state's universities.

But a spokesman for the U.S. Student Association says that's a flawed idea because higher education doesn't work like markets for other goods and services.

Christie is expected to unveil his state budget next year.
