4-alarm fire ignites in West Kensington

Philadelphia fire crews responded to the scene of a multi-alarm fire in the city's West Kensington section.

The blaze was placed under control at around 6:48 p.m.

The fire broke out at 2nd and Somerset streets at around 5:08 p.m.

Arriving fire crews reported seeing heavy fire and thick smoke coming from the three-story building.

Just six minutes after the first alarm, a second alarm was sounded soon followed by a third. By 5:47 p.m., a fourth alarm was struck.

Chopper 6 HD showed a portion of the roof had collapsed. Fire officials said the building was vacant and no injuries were reported.

An evacuation shelter has been set up at 4th Street and Lehigh Avenue for neighbors living in adjacent homes
