NJ governor to visit charter school

NEWARK, N.J. - January 18, 2011

The governor will visit a top-performing charter in Newark.

Christie has made charter schools and school choice centerpieces of his education plans.

The governor's press office has not said why Christie plans to be in Newark.

Christie last week said an announcement about charter schools was imminent. He told a town hall audience in Bergen County they would be "astonished" by the number of independent schools his administration has approved.

Christie was last at the Robert Treat Academy in the city's North Ward a year ago for his first post-election appearance. The school is among the best in the state.
