Four homes along the 4800 block of Stenton Avenue were evacuated around 11:30 p.m. after high levels of gas were detected.
It was later discovered that a 4-inch cast iron main broke, causing the leak. PGW crews were able to contain the gas and make repairs to the main.
Residents were allowed to return to their homes around 12:30 a.m. when firefighters declared the situation under control.
