Mrs. Fixit: Valentine Roses

February 13, 2011

First you want to prep your vase. make sure the water is on the warmer side, no cooler than room temperature.

Add a tablespoon of antiseptic mouth wash to the water. The mouth wash has sugars and antiseptic so it will kill bacteria in the water and the sugar will feed the water.

No antiseptic mouth wash in the house? not to worry. Just try a teaspoon of bleach and a teaspoon of sugar instead.

When you cut roses as a defense, they will form an airbubble in the stem. It's that airbubble that will cause them to wilt prematurely in the vase.

So to prevent this, cut the stems under running water and the water will cling to the stem and prevent the air bubble from forming.

Put the flowers into the water as soon as they get cut.

Follow these suggestions and your flowers will look better longer. I'm Mrs. Fixit and it's just that simple!
